Since 2006, the Bernalillo County Computer Clubhouse Coordinator has helped four members receive the Intel Network scholarships ranging from $2500 to $4000. There is one alumni application this year, but scholarships not awarded at this time.
Six members have attended the teen summit in Boston (five-day workshop on programs such as: Premiere, Photoshop, Flash, scratch, photography, magazine editing, 3d animation, webpage making, including a career fair.
One member learned Flash animation at the clubhouse and received a C2C scholarship from the Intel Clubhouse Network and graduated from the Stanford University with a degree in animation. She will pursue her Masters degree in Georgia. She is still and active mentor at various Clubhouses.
These successes are just a small example of our goals:
- Achieving genuine interest in technology-related careers.
- Increasing job readiness among clubhouse youth, including increased placement in internships and jobs drawing on technology skills.
- Supporting college placements, including attendance at colleges clubhouse members would otherwise be unlikely to attend.
*Clubhouse-to-College/Clubhouse-to-Career (C2C) was developed to support Computer Clubhouse members in planning for the future and realizing their potential by leveraging the technology skills and experience they gain at the clubhouse. The goal is to provide young people with the skills and knowledge needed to take an active role in ensuring their own success. C2C helps clubhouse members explore professional jobs and academic opportunities, and learn from people who have already succeeded in their careers.
