The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program was established under Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended, in order to assist communities in providing essential community facilities, providing decent housing for residents, promoting economic development and maintaining a suitable living environment.
The State of New Mexico allocated more than $10 million in 2012 that was distributed statewide on a competitive basis.
State and national goals of the program are to address activities that help low and moderate income families; work that improves areas of slum and blight; and to address emergency or urgent needs.
A wide variety of community needs are eligible, including infrastructure such as road and street improvements, housing, community and senior centers, economic development, planning and public safety needs.
