District 5

With over 500 roads in the county that need to be paved, the County's Capital Improvement Program has its hands full prioritizing which ones get completed first with limited dollars. Truth is, the County Operations and Maintenance Department housed in the Public Works Division would love to see all of them paved, because once a road is paved, the maintenance of that road requires far less time and costs far less money than maintenance of a gravel road.

In order to manage all of the requests for road paving (as well as other projects) the County created a Capital Improvement Project request form. County residents can request a hard copy of the form at (505) 468-7309 or visit the County’s CIP website at bernco.gov/cip and fill it out electronically.

Here's a tip: It’s really important to get as many of your neighbors as possible to submit requests as well, so the CIP Program knows there is support for the project. They’ll rank your road’s priority based on several factors, including number of households served, percentage of residents requesting the paving, number of work orders for the road, whether it is a school bus route, and so on.

If you have any questions about the process, you are always welcome to contact the CIP Program at (505) 468-7309 or the District 5 office at (505) 468-7212.

Bernalillo County is diverse in its beauty - and it's also diverse in its weather conditions. What could be a beautiful day in the South Valley could be a snow-packed day in the East Mountains or other areas.

Beginning in Nov. 2014, we will be providing information to county residents about inclement road conditions.

Snowy Road

This will include: www.bernco.gov home page notifications on conditions direct from our team who are actually on the roads; as well as this webpage which will provide residents with tips on road closures; winter weather safety; and links to city, county and state road condition websites.

For a downloadable and printable version of our Winter Emergency Road and Winter Operation Procedures, please click here.

This brochure includes contact information, the county's priorities for winter snow removal, information on diversion of traffic during inclement weather, and preparation tips for both on the road and at home.

  • Bernalillo County Roads: For up-to-the minute status on Bernalillo County roads, sign up for Nixle, the county's alert system, by visiting www.nixle.com, or call (505) 843-1503. • City Roads: To access road status reports, or to submit a city road request within the Albuquerque city limits, dial 311.
  • State Roads: For information on roads statewide, including interstates and major roads, the State of New Mexico's Department of Transportation has several ways to access information. The Road Advisory Hotline is available 24/7 by calling 511. You can also visit http://nmroads.com for an interactive map of road conditions and to sign up for email/text alerts, or download the mobile app at http://m.nmroads.com.
