Bernalillo County Commission Vice Chair Wayne Johnson Will Host U.S. Embassy Staff

09/16/2016

Bernalillo County Commission Vice Chair, Wayne A. Johnson will be hosting 30 foreign nationals who are employed at U.S. embassies around the world.  On Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, Vice Chair Johnson will be leading a discussion about the issues facing the governance of the county and its interaction with government agencies at all levels. In addition, the vice chair will focus on government and media relations.

The meeting will take place at the Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Government Center, One Civic Plaza NW, 10th Floor, Conference Room B at 1:30 p.m.

The embassy staff are part of the education program managed by the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of the U.S. Department of State. The FSI is the federal government’s primary training institution for officers and support personnel of U.S. embassies.  The United States government regularly employs individuals from host countries to work in its embassies. All of these visitors work within the U.S. embassy's public affairs office and they will regularly provide the U.S. embassy briefings on current events, new government policies, and issue statements to the media outlets on the U.S.'s position for various foreign policy efforts.

“I am honored that Bernalillo County has the opportunity to demonstrate the important role and the impact that local government has on the quality of life of its residents,” Bernalillo County Commission Vice Chair Wayne Johnson stated.  “Their increased awareness of our process will allow embassy staff to better serve our representatives who are working in their countries.”

The visiting staff hold positions as information specialists and assistants, webmaster and digital media advisors and press and protocol officers.  These individuals work at U.S. embassies in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Seoul, South Korea, Valletta, Malta, Prague Czech Republic and 21 other locations.
