The training division provides annual continuing education department-wide to its members in the areas of emergency medical services, firefighting, vehicle extrication, rope rescue, pump operations, wildland firefighting, hazardous materials and fire prevention.

BCFD Ladder TraingingThe Bernalillo County Fire Academy is staffed with six personnel. The academy staff consists of a Division Chief, a Captain, a Lieutenant, two Engineers and an Administrative Officer I. All of the training personnel are certified EMS and International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) instructors.

The fire department has IAFF ACE certified fire fitness trainers that provide fitness assistance to all members of the department. All firefighters must participate annually in the wildland pack test and combat challenge. When the fire department is conducting a cadet academy, the training staff extends their knowledge, experience and physical fitness background to help build strong and well-educated firefighter/EMT’s.
