As most locals know, for quite a while the Bernalillo County Fire and Rescue Department has driven the bright yellow trucks. This bright yellow was used because it is the most noticeable color to the human eye. In 2008, the department began to switchd to more traditional colors – red and black – for the fleet. Within a few years, we hope to have the entire fleet the same color, as well as the reserve units. We follow and comply with all NFPA apparatus standards; Pumper (NFPA 1901), Ladder (NFPA 1904), Tanker (NFPA 1903), Wildland Engine (NFPA 1906). Our structural apparatus consists of Pierce Ladders and Engines. We operate two types of Wildland apparatus, type 6 brush trucks and a type 3 wildland engine. Nine out of our eleven stations are occupied by a rescue.
