Site Development and Traffic Analysis
Transportation is a major component in planning for new or expanding developments. Land use improvements depend on transportation facilities for internal traffic flow as well as for access to and from the regional transportation system. Bernalillo County is committed to providing the traveling public with a safe and efficient multi-modal transportation system, and to providing reasonable access for developments to promote sustainable economic growth.
Traffic analysis for land developments in the unincorporated area of Bernalillo County begins with the completion of a traffic scoping report. The information contained in this report will be used to determine if a Traffic Impact Analysis (TIA) is required. When considering whether or not a proposed development requires a TIA, the minimum trip generation threshold is 250 trips on a weekday or 25 PM peak hour trips. A TIA may otherwise be required on the basis of roadway characteristics, safety, modal traffic characteristics, or school construction.
Information on the content of and procedures for preparing a scoping report and a TIA are contained in Bernalillo County’s 2012 TIA Procedures which can be downloaded from this link,
