Third Annual BernCo Bernie’s Sheep Day and First Impression Youth Rodeo

Cowboys and cowgirls, it’s time to strap those boots on and get ready for the Third Annual BernCo Bernie’s Sheep Day and First Impression Youth Day Rodeo. It takes place on Saturday, Aug. 6 at Bernalillo County’s Dennison Park Rodeo Grounds in the South Valley, 7001 Coors Blvd. SW. The event will run from 9 a.m. ‘til the sheep come home.

Commission Chair Art De La Cruz and retired UNM family studies professor Dr. Peggy Chavez announced a White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. “Roots and Wings” is a family engagement program and collaboration between the county and Dr. Chavez that will launch as a pilot program in early spring in the South Valley.

  • Hey cowboys and cowgirls, it’s time to strap your boots on and get ready for the Third Annual BernCo Bernie’s Sheep Day and First Impression Youth Day Rodeo, Saturday, Aug. 6 at Bernalillo County’s Dennison Park Rodeo Grounds in the South Valley, 7001 Coors Blvd. SW. The event will run from 9 a.m. ‘til the sheep come home. There will be rough stock and timed events in the youth rodeo. Events include barrels, poles, flags, goat tying, steer dobbin’, bull riding, calf riding, mutton busting, stick horse and more. Age categories are 6 and under, 7 – 9, 10 – 13, 14 – 18 and an open division for team roping, ribbon roping, breakaway and chute doggin’. All events are free for the youth to participate but pre-registration is required, just go online to www.FIRC.bravesites.com. Twenty-contestant cap per event. Cowboys and cowgirls can also see sheep shearing demonstrations, enjoy pony rides, visit a petting zoo, and shop with artisan vendors. Come out and meet the real BernCo Bernie sheep.
