BernCo Open Space Offers Backyard Farming, Dinosaur Events this Weekend

    04/20/2017

Bernalillo County’s award-winning Open Space program offers two free family events this weekend: “Successful Plant Practices and Selecting Materials,” and “Just Before Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth.”

On Saturday, April 22 the Backyard Farming Series continues with “Successful Plant Practices” from 9 a.m.-noon at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House, 6029 Isleta Blvd. SW. This series teaches people how to plan and design sustainable home garden landscapes.

On Sunday, head over to Bachechi Open Space in the North Valley for a “Just Before Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth: Vertebrates from the Last Triassic of New Mexico.” This talk will cover the end of the Triassic period, about 200 million years ago, when dinosaurs became the dominant animals for about 140 million years. The lecture will cover how this happened and the ecosystems involved.

The talk is scheduled for Sunday, April 23 from 5-6:30 p.m. at Bachechi Open Space, 9521 Rio Grande Blvd. NW. Look for additional parking at Alameda Open Space.

Both events are free and registration is encouraged. Click here to register: http://www.bernco.gov/community-services/event-registration.aspx. For more information, please call (505) 314-0398.
