BernCo Seeks Community Input On Parks And Open Space Master Plan


Dirt TrailBernalillo County Parks and Recreation is currently updating the Parks, Recreation & Open Space Facilities Master Plan 2015 – 2030. This plan will provide a 15-year roadmap for the development of future parks, recreation and open space facilities. A series of public meetings will be held during the month of June to gather community input.

The meetings schedule is:

  • Monday, June 8, 6 p.m., Bernalillo County Sheriff’s North Area Command Center, 6900 Fourth St. NW
  • Wednesday, June 10, 6 p.m., Keshet Performance Space, 4121 Cutler Ave NE
  • Tuesday, June 16, 6 p.m., Raymond G. Sanchez Community Center, 9800 Fourth St. NW
  • Wednesday, June 17, 6 p.m., Los Vecinos Community Center, 478 ½ Old Hwy. 66, Tijeras, NM
  • Thursday, June 18, 6 p.m., Westside Community Center, 1250 Isleta Blvd. SW

Community members can learn more about the Parks, Recreation & Open Space Facilities Master Plan here, where they can watch a video about the process, review the draft master plan document, and provide comments.

The final Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan will be presented for adoption by the Bernalillo County Commission in August 2015.

The Parks, Recreation & Open Space Facilities Master Plan was initially developed in 2003. Bernalillo County has completed 75 percent of the projects identified in 2003. These projects include the Rio Grande Pool renovation; Bachechi, Pajarito; Durand, and Ojito open space; Hubbell House renovations and open space development; Vista Grande and Paradise Hills Community Center improvements; and playground upgrades throughout the county.
