    Holiday Fun with Bernalillo County

    12/08/2015

Here in Bernalillo County, we've made sure that there's plenty of family-style fun for all ages through the holidays!

    Holiday Break Fun

Need something fun for the kids to do during holiday break?

Los Vecinos Community Center is holding a "Winter Break Escape" for students aged K - 8 from Dec. 21 to Jan. 4 (closed Dec. 24, 25, 31; and Jan. 1). Cost is $10/day and field trips are mandatory.

At Los Padillas Community Center, there's also a "Winter Break Camp" from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. for young people aged 5 - 14 years. Cost is $50 per participant (not including cost of field trips). Please bring a sack lunch.

Please visit our Community Centers page for information on all happenings at our eight centers countywide.

    Open Space

The weather's turning colder, but that doesn't mean that things are slowing down at BernCo Open Space! We've got a great lineup of educational, family-friendly events to get you through the holiday breaks and into the New Year.

Sunday Family Fun Day: every Sunday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Bachechi Open Space (9521 Rio Grande Blvd. NW)

    December's theme is Patterns.

Each week, we'll offer an indoor craft that participants can take home, an outdoor activity that encourages exploration around the park, and either a hands-on experiment or group game that families can participate in during their visit. Additionally, we always have the Nature Packs that can be checked out to enhance your adventures, puppets, and a table of resources within the theme to encourage a deeper knowledge of what you have discovered.

December 13 - Take a walk around the park with your mind focused on patterns. Compare man-made to natural patterns. Make a mixed-media mandala, or color one here to take home.

December 20 - Celebrate the start of winter and the lengthening of days with an exploration of the seasons. Learn how to make a harmonograph and explore the millions of ways to create patterns.

Note: if there's snow on Sundays, we'll predominately be experimenting with snow- making snow slushies, examining snow under microscopes, and making snowflakes.
