BernCo to Host Nonprofit Workshop May 21

05/11/2015
Andy Lenderman

Bernalillo County will host a comprehensive training for nonprofits that intend to pursue capital outlay funding in 2016 and use Bernalillo County as the fiscal agent on Thursday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Vincent E. Griego Chambers, Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Government Building, One Civic Plaza NW.

Capital outlay funding refers to “bricks and mortar” projects with a lifespan of 10 years or more and does not refer to an organization’s operational funding.

At the training, county staff will present the state and county’s administrative requirements that are necessary for capital outlay appropriations before, during, and after a legislative session.

Compliance with these requirements is necessary for transparency, adherence to the state’s anti-donation clause, and to ensure that public tax dollars are spent as intended resulting in successful projects. Bernalillo County will be inviting nonprofits with whom it has existing agreements, but all nonprofits interested in learning the process are welcome.

Nonprofit organizations’ efforts to secure capital outlay funding from the Legislature for construction projects or equipment purchases invariably involve a local government entity, such as Bernalillo County. The state will only award these capital outlay appropriations when a nonprofit organization has a local government sponsoring entity that agrees to be the fiscal agent in a formalized contract, to accept and administer capital outlay funding on behalf of the organization.

This workshop is open to all nonprofit organizations whether or not they have previously done business with the county. Please RSVP to msalazar@bernco.gov or twheeler@bernco.gov by May 18.
