We offer the following programs:

Youth Programs

  • Before School
    The before school program is on a first-come first-served basis and runs Monday-Friday.
  • Parky’s Pals
    Parky's Pals is a recreational program designed for four and five year old minds and bodies. Activities vary from music, painting, arts and crafts, to outdoor activities and field trips. Parky's Pals typically runs from September-April. For more information call (505) 468-7500. Note: updated shot records are required before children can be registered for the program.
  • After School
    The after school program is on a first-come first-served basis and runs Monday-Friday.
  • Summer Recreation  
    This summer at Vista Grande Community Center, the summer recreation program is back, with convenient schedules and affordable options. At our program, your child will have a safe place to make friends, exercise, play, create, explore nature, and go on field trips. Our program is managed by expert recreation leaders with over 50 years of combined experience. At Vista Grande’s Summer Recreation Program, kids have a place to be kids!

    The summer recreation program is for children aged kindergarten through eighth grade. Registration begins May 1, 2015 for youth currently in the VGCC program; May 14, 2015 for the general public.
    • Program Dates: Monday - Friday, June 8 - July 24, 2015  
    • Program Times: 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.  
    • Program Cost: $212 for seven-week program; plus $15 registration fee; $10 registration fee for each additional child
  • Spring Break Camp
  • Mountain Men Wrestling
    • Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, practice 4:30 - 6 p.m.; tournaments on weekends
    • $80 + fees and equipment

  • Wrestling Skills Class
    This is only a skills class.  The team will not participate in tournaments.
  • Los Vecinos/Vista Grande Youth Volleybal League

Youth ​Enrichment Classes

  • Shorin – Ryu Karate  
    These youth classes develop character in each student and each student’s progress is measured individually. It also works on qualities such as courtesy, respect, and discipline. Both classes develop self-confidence, and self-defense skills. They are fun, safe, non-competitive atmosphere classes.  For more information call John Swenson at 307-8212.
    • When: Tuesdays and Thursdays
    • Time: 4:15 - 5 p.m. (beginner); 5 - 5:45 p.m. (intermediate)
    • Cost: $149.95 (+tax) for 3 months
    • Instructor: Sensei John Swenson
  • One-on-One Tutoring 
    Reading intervention for youth grades K-6 in reading, writing, spelling; tutoring in math.
    • When: Wednesdays during the school year
    • Time: 12:30 - 6 p.m. (2 - 3:45 p.m. reserved for Writing Ink)
    • Cost: $35.50/hour, includes prep, individualized tutoring, taxes and fees. Testing and Consultation - separate fee.

  • Writing, Ink. a Creative Writing Class 
    For grades 3-5, teacher permission required for grades 1-2
    • When: Wednesdays in fall and spring, various dates each year. Contact Christine for more information.
    • Time: 2 - 3:45 p.m.
    • Cost: nine sessions/$150 if enrollment is more than eight students. Cost varies on how many weeks the session runs.

    This program is designed for anyone who wishes to play a competitive game or non competitive game of basketball, for high school students and adults every Tuesday and Saturday.  
    • Tuesdays, Thursdays 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. high school students & adults
    • Saturdays 4 - 6 p.m. high school students & adults
  • Rules: 
    • Games are played 5 on 5 full court, first 10 players to show up get to play first game.
    • Baskets count for 1 point, 20ft or longer shot counts for 2 points.
    • First team to get to 15 points wins.
    • Winning team of 1st game played gets to play against next team waiting. After that, each team whether they win or lose plays two games and then sits and waits in line for their next game.
    • Players call their own fouls. No free throws, just take the ball out at top of key.
    • If there are more than 20 players present then the side courts will be used to allow more playing time.
  • Teen/Adult Open Gym Volleyball
    Can't get enough volleyball in your life?  We are now open  three days a week for those who enjoy playing volleyball.  Bring your friends, co-workers and family for pick-up games.   
    • Wednesdays, Fridays 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. High School & Adults
    • Saturdays noon - 4 p.m. High School & Adults
  • Rules:
    • Teams are comprised of 6 players based on first come first serve.
    • Winning team of first game played gets to play against next team waiting. After that, each team whether they win or lose plays two games and then sits and waits in line for their next game.
    • Players call their own fouls.
    • If there are 24 or more players present then two nets will be set up. A third net can be set up for resting players to practice.
    • Rally scoring will be followed. The first team to 15 points wins. Matches are considered to be one game for open gym. ​
  • High Desert Pipes and Drums

Senior Programs

  • Garden Club 
    Do you have a green thumb or an interest in learning more about gardening? Join the Garden Club! This is a social club that meets monthly. The meetings are full of information shared by both members and guest speakers. This is also a great way to become involved with charitable projects. 
    • Second Tuesday of each month
    • Time: 9:45 - 11:30 a.m.
    • Cost: $10 annual membership fee

    • High Spirit has been providing dance classes in Albuquerque for more than 20 years and provides a variety of classes at Westside Community Center. For 5 years and older Cost is $35 a month. For more information please call (505) 831-1368.

    • A high impact dance workout incorporating hip hop, Latin rhythms, and a variety of dance styles, usic and movement, providing a fun and effective cardio workout. Participation is free but participants must sign registration and waiver forms.

    • Bernalillo County's popular "Movies in the Park" summer series kicks off June 5 and runs through August 1. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets; enjoy a free movie in the outdoors.
