Project Scope: Bernalillo County is installing thousands of feet of fiber-optic cable to establish its own infrastructure for voice and data communications. The fiber-optic cable provides a greater bandwidth to carry digital information. Individual fiber-optic lines are strands of optically pure glass as thin as a human hair that can carry the digital information over the long distances.
For the purposes of the Alameda Adaptive Signal System project, the data transfer will happen in real time, allowing the entire system to more efficiently communicate and adjust the traffic signals for improved traffic flow.
