    Why is this measure important?

    Safety, Bernalillo County became part of the National Flood Insurance Program in 1983, At that time the 100 yr. Floodplain was mapped. However, not all of BC was mapped. Subsequently development has occurred in the 100 yr. Floodplain, primarily in the East Mountain area, which is placing homeowners at risk. This effort will provide information to guide development within these unmapped areas and provide existing homeowners with information regarding their risk.
