    Support the citizens of Bernalillo County through the operation of an Emergency Management program that focuses on preparing for, responding to and recovering from any type of event or incident that effects the citizens of the county.


    • Maintain countywide situational awareness during non-emergency operations.
    • Monitor/review the media outlets pertaining to emergency information, and large community events that may impact public safety.
    • Respond to planned and emergency events such as hazardous materials incidents, search/rescue, aircraft incidents.
    • Open and operate the county’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to coordinate resources during a large scale event.
    • Serve as a liaison between Incident Commander and outside agencies.
    • Coordinate with county departments and divisions as it pertains to weather, emergency incidents, awareness incidents, and large scale incidents.
    • Facilitate the development, maintenance, dissemination, and revision of the County’s Comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), and the associated Emergency Support Functions (ESFs) annexes.
    • Submit the EOP plan to the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (NM DHSEM) for review every three years.
    • Coordinate & execute the county’s annual exercise program to include conducting planning meetings, facilitating exercises and ensuring that a hot-wash and after-action meeting is conducted after each exercise and a comprehensive improvement plan is produced for each area of deficiency.
    • Applies on behalf of all Public Safety departments for all federal preparedness grants through NM-DHSEM to include the Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP), the Emergency Management Performance Grant Program (EMPG).
