*Economic Development Team

The Office of Economic Development formed the Business and Economic Development Team to assist the business community in locating and expanding in Bernalillo County. The purpose of the team is to expedite permitting for quality development and assisting the potential applicant in the development process. The committee is comprised of representatives and directors of all departments involved in the development process (Manager, Finance, Public Works, Zoning, Fire, and Environmental Health).

COMMON SENSE

The team has received widespread praise from the business community for its common sense approach to business development - treating the business community as a customer. A project representative gets real time with all Bernalillo County representatives, they do not have to wait in line; the meeting is scheduled just for their project.

Once a meeting is scheduled, the team will review the specific project (at one large meeting) and advise the applicant of potential issues, concerns, or problems with the project and/or the application. Bernalillo County Officials will answer all questions, identify obstacles, and assist the potential business through the process.

It is an advantage to all parties; it allows County Representatives to familiarize themselves with the project and the business community to interact personally with Bernalillo County. The committee may suggest potential plan revisions, additional County permits, or meetings with neighborhood groups, possible competitors, or other agencies. The business community will schedule a meeting, meet with county officials and have their questions answered. A common sense approach to development; no surprises, no run around, no bureaucracy - just results.

The Team takes both business and community needs into consideration when deciding to expedite the process. If the committee approves the project, it is "fast tracked" through the Bernalillo County process, the project is given priority over others. We intend to prove that Economic Development in a priority to Bernalillo County.
