August Open Space Events

We have two Bernalillo County Open Space events coming up in August at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House. The first event is part of the Backyard Farming Series being held on August 21st from 10:00am-4:00pm. This full day workshop is all about Traditional Farming that delves into such topics as the history or our food, heirloom and native crops, traditional farming methods, and traditional irrigation methods. Looking into the past and understanding the history of our food can help us be better gardeners today. This event is free to the public, but folks must RSVP by either emailing calangan@bernco.gov or calling 314-0398.

The second event is an outdoor film screening and arts fair at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House on August 28th. This event is part of the  Leopold Legacy Film Series and Albuquerque Film Festival. We will be featuring “Fresh the Movie” that celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system. The event will start at 4:00pm with an arts fair exhibiting local artists who tell their own story of the food system through the artistic lens. The fair will feature additional local and guest artists, food, and fun for the whole family. The movie will start at 8:00pm. This event is free to the public and people are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on and enjoy the summer evening. For additional information or to exhibit art in the fair, contact calangan@bernco.gov or call 314-0398.

Also, don’t miss the Sabino Canyon Open Space Interpretive Walk with the East Mountain Historical Society. The walk has been rescheduled to August 14th from 9:00-11:00am. Space is limited, so RSVP today by contacting calangan@bernco.gov.
