At approximately 8AM, Monday, October 5, 2009, an MDC correction transport vehicle carrying 54 inmates on their way to morning court was struck by a vehicle. Two correctional officers and fourteen inmates were transported to the hospital for examination. The remaining correctional officers were able to contain all inmates, and return them to the facility without further incidents.
“Through training, the MDC Correctional Officers were able to control the situation quickly and efficiently,” says Chief of Corrections Ron Torres. “Their quick response ensured that public safety was never a threat to the community and the inmates were returned back to the facility without incident.”
