Vincent C. Murphy was hired as deputy county manager of Community Services in February 2012. He manages day to day operations and long term objectives for the following departments: Office of Social Services, Economic Development Department, Cultural Services Department, Housing Department, Parks and Recreation Department, Public Information Office, Zoning, Building and Planning and the Office of Environmental Health. He also manages special projects, and serves as the liaison between the county clerk, probate judge, ABC Community Schools and the Bernalillo County Commission.
Vince has previously worked for The Garrity Group Public Relations as the director of government relations. He was CEO of Strategic and Learning Service, a provider of Organizational Development, Learning/Training and Community Services. His clients included Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, Department of Energy headquarters in Washington D.C., various Native American enterprises and other private sector companies.
Vince has been active in the community and currently serves as board chairman for New Mexico First, a statewide bipartisan public policy think tank. He recently completed a three year term on the board and executive committee of the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce where he served as chairman of the Business Advocacy and Government Relations Committee.
Vince started his career as a student teacher in four of the Pueblos in Northern New Mexico. He also worked at Northern New Mexico Community College as a job placement officer and coordinator of student services. He also worked at the New Mexico State Department of Education and Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell Campus and was deputy staff director for the New Mexico State Legislative School Study Committee. For nine years Vince served as state office director and chief of staff for U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman.
Vince has a bachelor’s degree from the College of Santa Fe in Physical Education and a master’s degree in Public Administration from The University of New Mexico. Vince is married to Dr. Deborah Rifenbary, an associate dean in the College of Education at UNM. They enjoy international travel and living in Bernalillo County.
