After a seven-month long search process, the Bernalillo County Commission voted to hire Tom Zdunek (Zuh dun' ek) as Bernalillo County Manager.
“The search process brought forward many talented and capable candidates, and a majority of the Commission felt that Tom was the best qualified candidate,” said Commission Chair Maggie Hart Stebbins. “He has demonstrated his leadership, and I know he will continue to move the county towards accountability and professionalism.”
Zdunek has an extensive background in the private sector, along with nine years at Bernalillo County, working his way up the ranks from Fleet/Facilities Director to Deputy County Manager for Public Works. In January of this year, the Commission appointed him interim county manager during the search process.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve the County,” Zdunek said. “I plan to continue the work I have been doing while serving as interim county manager – to raise the bar on customer service to our residents, to continue implementation of performance-based standards and measures, and to create economic development initiatives that will bring jobs and businesses to Bernalillo County.”
His two-year contract will pay $148,000 a year.
