Bernalillo County Commissioner Michelle Lujan Grisham and Clerk Maggie Toulouse Oliver will host a presentation covering the proposal to implement Voting Convenience Centers (VCC) in lieu of Election Day precinct locations for the Primary and General Elections in 2012.
The initial proposal includes 70 VCC locations strategically placed throughout the City and County that are easily accessible. The 65 VCC locations will take the place of 172 precinct locations on Election Day, resulting in a significant savings in manpower and supplies for a potential savings of up to $1.5 million dollars.
“My staff and I have prepared a detailed proposal and we are looking forward to the public’s input, which is a critical and important part of the process as we move forward. We want to make certain that we have identified all aspects of VCCs to make this method a successful voting mechanism for residents,” says Clerk Toulouse Oliver.
“Since the final proposal will come before the Board of County Commissioners on October 25th, it is important that residents have an opportunity to understand the change in the way voting is conducted and that their questions and comments be addressed,” says Commissioner Lujan Grisham.
