Bernalillo County Parks & Recreation Department employees and associates will participate in the “Let’s Get Moving to Stop Bullying Walk” tomorrow to emphasize the importance of eliminating bullying. Activities will begin at 3 p.m. at the UNM Bookstore with a number of participants who will be “planking”-- lying rigidly, face down in unusual locations--and posting photographs of their actions on the Parks & Recreation Department’s Facebook page. The 1.5 mile walk will start at 4 p.m. and end at Union Square around 5 p.m. with light refreshments. Walkers will carry orange balloons to call attention to their efforts.
The county recently sponsored a number of anti-bullying awareness events as a part of Bullying Prevention Month in October that included coordinating the production of public service announcements by local teens aired by local media and educational training programs at local elementary schools.
