Bernalillo County’s Open Space program welcomes the community to celebrate Arbor Day at Bachechi Open Space in Albuquerque’s North Valley on Sunday. Free trees will be given to the first 50 people to register.
The event is scheduled this Sunday from 10 a.m. – noon at Bachechi Open Space, a 27-acre open space near the Rio Grande.
This free event features three learning sessions:
· Educational opportunities from local arborists, who will cover pruning and planting methods
· A “Project Learning Tree” activity from U.S. Forest Service employees on the importance of forests
· A presentation on trees as wildlife habitat by master naturalists, featuring birds of prey from Wildlife Rescue
The Bachechi Open Space is located south of Alameda and west of Rio Grande Blvd. N.W. Amenities include trails, access to the regional bosque trail network, a rose garden, wildlife viewing blinds, a pecan tree orchard, educational signs and a solar-powered education building.
