Commissioner Michael C. Wiener today welcomed the community to the 2012 Day in Paradise celebration, a community event at Paradise Hills Park this Sunday.
This free event at Paradise Hills Park, 5901 Paradise Blvd. N.W., will feature food vendors, activities for children and a full afternoon of family-friendly entertainment.
Free children’s activities include fun jumps and a petting zoo. Entertainment features local artists Kathryn Soapes, Severo y Grupo Fuego and the Mr. Black band.
“This is a great chance to get outside and enjoy the people and parks that make Bernalillo County a great place to live,” Commission Vice Chair Michael C. Wiener says.
Commissioner Wiener is scheduled to honor four Outstanding Citizens from the Paradise Hills Little League for their volunteer work to provide sports programs for children.
Patrick Garcia, Gary Purcella, Karyn White and Colin Campbell will be honored for their work organizing the Little League, which serves hundreds of children and their families each year in the Paradise Hills area.

Saturday, April 28, 8 a.m. -- noon: Area residents are encouraged to participate in the Paradise Hills Spring Community Cleanup by bringing yard waste and other household solid waste to dumpsters located at the New Song Christian Fellowship church parking lot, 6013 Paradise Blvd. N.W.
Residents are asked to bring a utility bill showing the zip code 87114.
No tires, hazardous waste or Freon appliances will be accepted. Contact the Bernalillo County Solid Waste Department at 848.1531 or the Paradise Hills Community Center at 314.0245 for more information.
Sunday, April 29, noon to 5 p.m.:
The Day in Paradise celebration will be held at Paradise Hills Park, 5901 Paradise Blvd. N.W. Admission is free.
Food, entertainment and games for kids will be available.
A ceremony honoring the 2012 Outstanding Citizens begins at 1:30 p.m. Entertainment is scheduled throughout the afternoon.
