Commissioner Wayne Johnson today welcomed the community to the annual East Mountain Celebration this Sunday, May 6, from noon – 4 p.m.
This free event will be held at the county’s Los Vecinos Community Center, 478 ½ Old Highway 66, in Tijeras.
This family event includes free fun jumps for children, food vendors including barbecue, and live music from the local band Santa Fe South.
“The East Mountain Celebration is a great opportunity to highlight our unique community, and the amazing volunteers who donate their time and energy to help the people of Bernalillo County,” Commissioner Wayne Johnson says.
Commissioner Johnson is scheduled to honor several Outstanding Citizens for their public service work in the East Mountains, including public school volunteers; Little League organizers; dedicated library staff and church and nonprofit volunteers who serve the poor.

Sunday, May 6:
10 a.m.: Registration for a skateboard competition begins. Registration is from 10-11 a.m. at Los Vecinos Skate Park, 478 ½ Old Highway 66, in Tijeras. The competition begins at noon. Parents or guardians need to register participants under 18-years-old. Call the BZ at 294.9610 with questions.
Noon – 4 p.m.: The East Mountain Celebration will be held at Los Vecinos Community Center, 478 ½ Old Highway 66, in Tijeras.
Admission is free.
Food, entertainment and games for kids will be available.
A ceremony honoring the 2012 Outstanding Citizens begins at 12:15 p.m. Entertainment is scheduled throughout the afternoon.
