Bernalillo County, along with Ciudad Soil & Water Conservation District, NM State Forestry and the U.S. Forest Service are all working together to educate East Mountain residents about the advantages of creating defensible space around homes and businesses. Defensible space will not only make homes and businesses safer in the case of a wildland fire, but also creates a safer fire environment for those fighting fire. The news conference is taking place at the home of a Cedar Crest resident who has done a lot of clearing and cleaning on his property and who understands and believes in defensible space.
