For the eighth year in a row, Bernalillo County has received the Certificate of Achievement Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting from one of the nation’s most prestigious agencies.
“Our financial team has done it again,” says Deputy County Manager for Finance Teresa Byrd. “This is the twelfth time that the county has won this award. I want to congratulate our Accounting Department for the professional work they do, year after year.”
The award, from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, recognizes the excellence of the county’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2011. A CAFR is a document that provides a comprehensive picture of a government entity’s financial status. The report must comply with generally accepted accounting principles--promulgated by the Financial Accounting Standards Board.
County financial experts say a significant amount of effort goes into preparing the CAFR. Information from other county departments, along with all the data entry, bookkeeping, reconciliations and accounting work throughout the year, are included in the work.
