Eleven vehicles, including a Ford Expedition and ten Ford Crown Victorias, are being auctioned off as Bernalillo County offers its no longer needed vehicles, office equipment, furniture, and other miscellaneous items to buyers online.
“The county is able to recycle surplus items and residents have the chance to bid on some great deals,” says Deputy County Finance Manager Teresa Byrd. “The auction for each item is only open for seven days so interested bidders have to register quickly.”
The county has contracted with Utah-based Public Surplus to list the public auctions and also notify potentially interested buyers for specific goods. The auctions are much more convenient for bidders because items can be viewed around the clock rather than only on set days and times.
The surplus items are managed by the county’s fixed asset section. About 300 items per month are sold online.
The county started selling surplus items online in May of 2011. Since that time, this program has brought in $512,606 in revenue.
Before the reusable items are auctioned off, internal county departments get first dibs to take what they need for their offices.
