The Bernalillo County Fire Department is assisting the U.S. Forest Service with fighting a fire that is currently burning on the west slope of the Sandia Mountains. The fire, which was first reported around 8:30 this morning, is one mile north of the tram on U.S. Forest Service land.
“BCFD has been asked to establish a water supply at the base of the tram,” says Deputy Fire Chief Frank Barka. “This supply will be utilized by the Forest Service to deploy water via helicopter for air attack on the fire.”
Quick extinguishment is expected once this operation begins.
Bernalillo County has reached out to East Mountain residents to advise them that fire crews are working to extinguish the fire.
For more information about the fire, the media should contact Karen Takai, Fire Information Officer, Sandia Ranger District at 505-235-4213.
