“I’m grateful to the County Commission for granting me this wonderful opportunity,” says Bernalillo County Assessor Tanya R. Giddings. “My top priority will be to direct a transitional and performance review of the Assessor’s Office and determine the best way to serve the residents of Bernalillo County."
The county assessor’s job responsibilities include determining the property value of homes, businesses, and other taxable property in Bernalillo County; informing property owners of taxable value; preparing and submitting tax rolls to the county treasurer, and supervising 89 employees.
“I have already begun to introduced myself to some of the staff,” says Giddings. “I am looking forward to charting a course for the future, focusing on continuously improving the functions and duties of our office, and building upon the level of professionalism of our staff.”
For the past five years, Giddings has been employed at the University of New Mexico as the government relations officer in the Office of Government and Community Relations. She has also worked for the State Personnel Office and the state Senate Finance Committee.
Giddings has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, Law and Government from the University of New Mexico.
Giddings will serve as county assessor for the next two years.
Former County Assessor Karen Montoya resigned from the assessor position last month, after serving two years of a four-year term.
Montoya was elected to the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission last November.
