Bernalillo County offers its no longer needed vehicles, office equipment, furniture, and miscellaneous items to buyers online. The move has generated more money for the county, and give a larger number of people the opportunity to buy the items.
“This is a great way for us to recycle surplus items and give more residents a chance to get in on a good deal,” says Deputy County Finance Manager Teresa Byrd.
The county has contracted with Utah-based Public Surplus to list the public auctions and also notify potentially interested buyers for specific goods. Byrd says the county’s former way of handling surplus item auctions often cost more, thereby reducing what the county eventually earned. This has been another improvement on how we are looking for innovative ways to save tax payers money.
The auctions will also be much more convenient for bidders because items can be viewed around the clock rather than only on set days and times.
