County Commissioner Wayne Johnson invites East Mountain residents to attend a public meeting that will address the flood zone changes happening in their area. The informational meeting is scheduled for August 31, 2011 at the Los Vecinos Community Center and will begin at 6:00 p.m.
The center is located at 478 ½ Old Hwy 66 in Tijeras.
Residents will be able to view the new maps, ask questions about the appeal process, learn about the insurance requirements and the new development requirements for new construction in the flood zone.
A multi-year project to re-examine flood zones and develop detailed, digital flood hazard maps is nearing completion. The new maps reflect current flood risks and areas of recent growth, replacing maps that are up to10 years old. East Mountain residents need to become aware of how the flood maps are changing and why — and how the changes will affect residents and business owners alike.
If you have questions about the East Mountain flood zone changes or need more information about the public meeting, please contact the Bernalillo County Floodplain Administrator, Don Briggs, at 848-1511 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
