Bernalillo County’s new virtual one stop service (VOSS) will improve customer service by allowing residents to get what they need at one location, using new teleconferencing technology to access staff and information at other offices.
Bernalillo County unveiled its ‘virtual one stop service’ to the public. Beginning Friday, Sept. 14, it will be available to the public, on a walk-in basis or by an appointment.
“In one stop, residents will be able to complete their permit or application process, that might have involved up to three different offices,” says Commissioner Wayne A. Johnson. “With an average of 6,000 permits a year that are initiated at Zoning, Building and Planning and a potential of 2,000 or more of those interactions involving another office, this will save time and money for both Bernalillo County residents and Bernalillo County.”
The three BernCo offices that have the capability for the face-to-face teleconferencing are:
Public Works Division, 2400 Broadway Blvd SE
Zoning, Building & Planning and Environmental Health, 111 Union Square SE
Fire Department, 6840 2nd Street NW
Members of the public can choose any of the offices to conduct business. Each office is equipped with a high definition Polycom camera that allows for the staff and residents to talk, face-to-face; a ceiling mount camera with zoom capabilities to view documents and plans in wide angle or in tight detail; and two 46” commercial grade monitors with stereo speakers so that all three offices and the documents can be viewed simultaneously.
All of this equipment is compatible with the county’s internal network infrastructure and was researched and set up by county staff. The total cost was $50,000.
“To our knowledge, this virtual one stop service is the first of its kind in the state to directly serve the needs of the public,” says County Manager Tom Zdunek. “This is one more example of Bernalillo County’s commitment to improving its customer service processes.”
