Bernalillo County residents interested in serving as county assessor will have another opportunity to apply for the job. Starting Dec. 21, the Board of County Commissioners will accept resumes from candidates through Dec. 28 at 5 p.m.
So far, 16 people have already applied for the position.
Individuals interested in being considered for county assessor should send a letter of interest and a resume to: the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners at One Civic Plaza NW - 10th Floor, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87102.
County Assessor Karen Montoya resigned from her position as assessor earlier this month, after serving two years of a four-year term. The resignation is effective Dec. 31. In November, Montoya was elected to the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission.
State law requires county commissioners to appoint an individual to serve the remaining two years of Montoya’s term.
Potential candidates must reside in Bernalillo County and be at least 18 years of age.
The county assessor’s job responsibilities include determining the property value of homes, businesses, and other taxable property in Bernalillo County; informing property owners of taxable value; preparing and submitting tax rolls to the county treasurer, and supervising 89 employees in the County Assessor’s Office.
A new assessor could be appointed at the commission’s Jan. 8 meeting.
