On Dec. 19, 2012, Bernalillo County Commissioner Maggie Hart Stebbins was recognized by the Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education for her “outstanding support” of the APS fine arts program and of student artists.
Since 2010, Commissioner Hart Stebbins, along with Bernalillo County Probate Judge Willow Misty Parks and County Clerk Maggie Toulouse Oliver, has exhibited in her office at One Civic Plaza the art work of APS students in the “A is for Art” artscrawl.
“A is for Art” is an annual fundraiser hosted by the APS Education Foundation. This event has raised thousands of dollars for the benefit of the district’s fine art program and individual student artists, each of whom received 40 percent of the sales from their pieces.
Commissioner Hart Stebbins, a longtime supporter of the arts, also hosts art shows which highlight the work of District 3 artists in her office several times a year. Since taking office, there have been 22 District 3 art exhibits. The 23rd exhibit, featuring the work of Ernesto Flores, will be on display from Jan. 9 through March 1, with an opening reception the evening of Friday, Jan. 18.
