Commissioner Art De La Cruz has been honored for his work to expand access to healthcare in the South Valley by First Choice Community Healthcare.
Commissioner De La Cruz received the Community Pillar Award from First Choice in an award ceremony Thursday evening.
“Honoring Commissioner De La Cruz this year was a unanimous decision by our voting First Choice Foundation board members,” says First Choice Chief Executive Officer Bob DeFelice.
“In the South Valley, the county continues to play an important role in positively impacting the health and wellness of its citizens. Bernalillo County and the commissioner’s office have partnered with First Choice on numerous innovative and successful projects in the past. We will continue to nurture and strengthen this relationship as we move forward with our South Valley Health Commons expansion.”
For more than 40 years, First Choice Community Healthcare has been providing quality primary healthcare, dental and behavioral services to central New Mexicans on a sliding scale, and despite insurance status.
Also Thursday, First Choice officials announced the South Valley Health Commons Expansion Project, which includes plans for a charter school, an early childhood development center, a community wellness center and more.
