Treasurer Manny Ortiz and staff members (from left, Vickie Lucero, Pamela Klenck, Julie Aragon, Rosemary Apodaca, Debbie Baker and Isabelle Purcella) participated in "Operation Zak Lannon Day." Zak, a West Mesa High School football player, is preparing to undergo a 14-hour operation tackling a rare and deadly form of cancer. As part of the community effort to help Zak and his family, the Treasurer's office is "pulling together" in support of this brave teen who's motto is "you never know how strong you are...until being strong is the only choice you have." Local news coverage on the story brought national attention to this young man's fight, and local business House of Football sold t-shirts to help defray cost for his treatment.
