The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 10, 2013 commended Hideout Boxing Gym for its work within the community supporting youth development and affecting positive changes in their lives.
Former world champion boxer Danny “Kid Dynamite” Romero owns and operates Hideout Boxing Club, a gym for children and adults in the North Valley. Hideout was started by Romero’s father, Danny, Sr., in the late 1980s and is not just a boxing gym - it also shares space with Youth Development, Inc., a local non-profit organization dedicated to helping at-risk kids, and the gym offers free membership to anyone under the age of 19.
Romero, with the help of his dad and their assistants, currently trains about 200 kids -- teaching them how to box but also how to focus their attention on the positive and to address the troubling issues in their lives.
