Bernalillo County has received its first Performance Measurement Certificate of Achievement Award from the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), headquartered in Washington, D.C. “The mission of Bernalillo County is to be an effective steward of county resources and a partner in building a high quality of life for county residents, communities and businesses,” says County Manager Tom Zdunek. “By tracking our performance, we are able to better determine where we are going and what we hope to accomplish.”
Bernalillo County is one of eight governmental units in the United States to merit the recognition this year. The county was selected based on its exceptional efforts to track and publicly report its performance data. That data can be found on the county’s website transparency portal BernCo View at /BernCo-View/.
Performance management can assist the county’s efforts to reduce costs, prioritize projects, improve quality and encourage governmental accountability and transparency.
“In 2010, the Bernalillo County Commission made a commitment to make all county information easily available to the public by creating the county’s online transparency portal. County Manager Tom Zdunek has taken that a step further by collecting and posting our performance data on the web so that the public has detailed information about how we are meeting our goals,” says County Commission Chair Maggie Hart Stebbins.
The ICMA is a nonprofit agency dedicated to creating excellence in local governance by developing and fostering professional management.
