Bernalillo County assessor Karen L. Montoya encourages any low income homeowner in Bernalillo County who is disabled or 65 years old or older to contact her office about applying for a new form of property tax relief.
“I am very happy to inform you of an amendment that was signed into law February 28, 2008,” Montoya says. “This amendment freezes the valuation of owner-occupied single family dwellings if the owner is 65 years of age or older and the owner’s modified gross income is not more than $32,000 (up from $18,000 in current law).”
To apply for the aid, simply call or visit the assessor’s office to request an application or down load one offline.
The Assessor’s office is located at 501 Tijeras NW in Downtown Albuquerque or for more information, residents can call 222-3700. Applications must be made each year to qualify for the tax relief.
