Bernalillo County’s Budget Department has won its first international award but, more importantly, it has for the 15th time in a row produced a document that is expected to help the county continue to borrow money at lower rates for capital improvements which, in turn, help stimulate the local economy.
“Not many governmental agencies even try to produce two year budget books and this award clearly recognizes the fact that we did—and continue—to do it well,” says Bernalillo County Deputy County Manager for Finance Dan Mayfield.
The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada—highlights the county’s 400-page 2011-2012 biennial budget book. Mayfield says the document serves as a good source of information about county programs and services, helps county officials make better financial decisions, and maintains the county’s commitment to fiscal transparency.
The 2011-2012 budget book can be easily accessed on the county’s website at www.bernco.gov and by clicking on the document which is on the budget page.
