Commissioner Art De La Cruz is continuing his efforts and strong commitment to stress the importance of literacy in his district. On Thursday, March 10, the commissioner will be giving children the gift of their very own book, so that they can continue reading during spring break.
“There are many children in the community without access to books at home with parents lacking resources to purchase books. We believe in our children and we want them to keep reading and that is why I am sponsoring this book holiday, for children to take two brand new books home to read; that they own and can share with their families during the upcoming spring break,” says Commissioner De La Cruz.
When: Thursday, March 10, 2011
3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Where: Alamosa Community Center
6900 Gonzales, SW
The commissioner hopes this effort will encourage and reinforce the importance of promoting literacy in school age children and awareness by parents and the community in his district. He wants to provide the opportunity for the children to enjoy reading and continue exploring their books over the spring break.
The focus remains literacy, celebrating reading with each child to receive two books and a surprise goodie bag - popcorn, snow cones, and cotton candy as part of the fun!
Commissioner De La Cruz, with important sponsorship support, is committed to providing 300 books for the kids. There are plans for more book events for the families in District 2.
