The Bernalillo County Fire Department held a graduation ceremony on Nov. 22 for six new firefighters.
County Commissioner Lonnie Talbert and Fire Chief Frank Barka were on hand for the ceremony, which happened last Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the UNM Continuing Education Conference Center, 1634 University Blvd. NE.
Bernalillo County’s Open Space Program is wrapping up the final events of 2013 this month with a free Backyard Farming workshop and an art show where participants can help create an installation art piece.
Fourteen veterans, 13 from Bernalillo County and one from Otero County, were interred at the Santa Fe National Cemetery as part of the New Mexico Forgotten Heroes Burial Program Nov. 1. The 13 Bernalillo County veterans were identified through the county’s Unclaimed/Indigent Cremation Program.

The two-year project to reconstruct the Paseo Del Norte and I-25 interchange is officially under way. Representatives from The Federal Highway Administration, State of New Mexico, New Mexico Department of Transportation, City of Albuquerque, Bernalillo County and the Mid-Region Council of Governments recently celebrated the beginning of this long-awaited project.
The mural depicts the connection between the past and the future, represented by character sketches of youth and elders in the community as well as historical buildings and symbols related to the North Valley.
