BernCo Public Art Sculpture Dedicated at Rape Crisis Center

Commissioner Wayne Johnson and community members dedicated a bronze sculpture, Bird Ryders, at a special ceremony on Tuesday, April 11 at the Rape Crisis Center of Central New Mexico. The metal sculpture is funded by Bernalillo County 1% for the Arts.

The Asian American Monument Committee of New Mexico requests artists or artists’ teams to submit qualifications for designing a public art sculpture in honor of the landmark civil rights ruling from Territory v Yee Shun (1882).

On Dec. 21, 2016, a public art piece called Coneflowers was installed at the Paradise Hills Community Center Annex, 5901 Paradise Blvd NW, by artist Christopher Weed and some assistants.

Exhibit by professional women artists and young women from the Youth Services Center will be on display between March 4 - 30, with an artist's reception March 17.

Art Exhibit to Hang at Historic MRCOG Building

The Bernalillo County Arts Board held a reception for artists Dana Kleinmann and Tim Mullane following their January board meeting at the historic Middle Rio Grande Council of Governments building at 809 Copper NW in downtown Albuquerque. Their artwork and other pieces in the county's collection will hang in the historic building until further notice.

  • Learn wood carving Mondays from 9- to 11 a.m. at Los Vecinos Community Center. Classes are for those ages 18 and up. Pay a $12 membership fee - seniors over 55 and veterans are free. Questions? Call the center at (505) 314-0240.

  • Seniors 50 +who are members of the City of Albuquerque Department of Senior Affairs can register for adapted aquatics classes taught at the UNM Therapeutic Pool (92 degree water). Participants will be led through a series of range of motion exercises that will increase joint mobility and develop muscular strength. Transportation from Vista Grande is provided and leaves the center at 12:20. Space is limited. Class cost is donation of $8. Register in person or over the phone at Palo Duro Sports and Fitness 880-2800 or Los Volcanes Fitness Center 839-3710 or North Domingo Baca Fitness Center at 764-6496.
