Major
Duties and Responsibilities Summary
- Responsible
for effective and efficient law enforcement duties with knowledge
of Federal/State Statutes and County Ordinances.
- Complete
investigations, testify in court, make felony and misdemeanor
arrests.
- Perform
duties with regard for the safety and protection of others.
- Maintain
conduct in accordance with Department Policy and Procedure.
Minimum
Qualifications
- High school
diploma and GED.
- Must have
been a full-time State Certified Law Enforcement Officer that
has retired in good standing from their department or agency.
- Ability
to understand and carry out written and oral instructions in
English.
- Ability
to interact effectively and professionally with supervisors,
other officers, other department personnel, and the general
public.
- Ability
to maintain law and order while recognizing social importance
of the law enforcement function.
- Ability
to observe situations analytically and objectively and to record
such.
- Ability
to express ideas clearly and concisely, in oral and written
English.
Screening
and Compliance
The offer
of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with
the following.
- Must pass an agility
test as prescribed by the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy.

- Employee
must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical
examination.
- Employee
must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
- Must have
been separated from employment for the minimum ninety (90) days
as required by 2.80.110 NMAC.
- Must pass
Sheriffs review process.
- Must pass
a background investigation performed by authorized law enforcement
agencies.
- Must have
a valid New Mexico drivers license by employment date.
- Must pass
an eye and audio examination, with vision equal to or better
than 20/60 20/100, both correctable to 20/30.
- May be
required to pass a polygraph examination.
There are
currently 10 vacancies as of July 1st, 2007, for the Bernalillo
County Sheriffs Department Rehire (RDR) program. These deputies
will be utilized in the field and their duties and responsibilities
will be equivalent to those of a regular full-time sworn deputy.
- Employees
hired under the RDR Program will start at D1/C pay, currently
$21.38.
- Cost of
living increases for RDRs will parallel those of regular
full-time deputies.
- RDRs
will receive shift differential pay of .20 per hour if assigned
to swing shift and .30 per if assigned to graveyard.
- RDRs
will be eligible for a clothing allowance of $225 per quarter.
- If, applicable
RDRs will receive specialty incentives of $15.00 bilingual
pay and $25.00 Field Training Officer pay per pay period.
- RDRs
will be eligible to receive a monthly Academic incentive of
$45.00
- RDRs
will accrue sick, vacation, and personal holidays as specified
in the Rules and Regulations manual.
- Holiday
pay, holiday overtime, and regular overtime benefits will be
available.
- RDRs
will be eligible for regular health, dental, and life insurance
benefits.
