National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Today, Bernalillo County joined more than 1,100 communities across the country in celebrating National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day, to highlight the importance of children’s mental health.

Bernalillo County is supporting at risk children and their families across the full continuum of services including prevention, identification, early intervention, support and treatment, harm reduction, outreach, and services in children’s homes within the community.

“Awareness Day is an opportunity for us to join with more than 1,100 communities across the country in celebrating the positive impact that we can have on the lives of children, youth, and young adults when we are able to integrate positive mental health into every environment,” said Lonnie Talbert, County Commission chair. “When we focus on building resilience and social-emotional skills in children, youth, and young adults, we can help these individuals and their families thrive.”

Over the last year, the Bernalillo County Department of Behavioral Health Services providers delivered behavioral health services to over 14,000 youth, through its reduction of adverse childhood experience and youth transitional living programs.

“Each year we see more and more children, more families in crisis, and offer more lifelines to those who are struggling to make it with few tools to lift themselves. Our collaboration with the County allows us to reach families who are in need and would otherwise go without the necessary help,” said Krisztina Ford, CEO of All Faiths Children’s Advocacy Center.
