Sawmill District Gets Approval for New Market

09/26/2018

County Commissioners approved $10-million of industrial revenue bonds for Sawmill Bellamah Properties to be used to develop a new shopping and dining market near Old Town.

The commission approved a notice of intent for the Sawmill Market, back in 2015 and now the bonds have been approved and construction can begin.

“The Sawmill Market will be the first of its kind in Albuquerque—a unique and exciting dining experience in the emerging Sawmill District,” says County Commissioner Debbie O’Malley. “The historic Sawmill area, through initial public investment and community involvement, has become a destination attracting millions of dollars in private investment.”

The Sawmill Market will be located at Bellamah and 10th street in the historic Sawmill District near I-40 and Rio Grande.

The plan for the market includes an adaptive reuse project which will incorporate elements from the historical character of the area.

The industrial revenue bonds will provide the necessary capital for land, construction, development costs, design/engineering, furniture, and fixtures.

This project will create up to 162 new jobs.

The bonds were approved on a unanimous 5-0 vote.
