South Valley Pride Day 2020 has been canceled. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has necessitated the cancelation of this year’s event.

“Due to the pandemic, with the New Mexico State Fair, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta and other large gatherings being canceled, we have made the decision to cancel South Valley Pride Day 2020 to secure the health and safety of the South Valley community,” says District 2 County Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada. “We hope that South Valley Pride will be back, bigger and better than ever, in the spring of 2021.”

Nine members of the District 2 community have been chosen as this year’s South Valley Pride Day Outstanding Citizens and Bernalillo County is working on creative ways to make sure they will be recognized for that honor.

Bernalillo County is also planning to find other ways for citizens to show their South Valley and District 2 pride with contests and video presentations though the end of the year.

South Valley Pride Day is an annual BernCo Commission District 2 community celebration that brings families and friends together with great food, fun for the kids and great local entertainment.

Despite the cancellation of the event, Commissioner Quezada still honored 10 Outstanding Citizens from the South Valley for their volunteer public service to the community. The ceremony was held in safe surroundings following the state protocols at the time. Bernalillo County salutes the District 2 Outstanding Citizens!
