County Commissioners Make a Splash in the South Valley

Residents will have a new way to cool off this summer in the South Valley.

County Commissioners approved phase II upgrades to the South Valley Pool on Isleta Blvd. and construction of a new splash pad right next to the pool at a cost of $1.7 million. The monies are a combination of capital outlay funds from the State of New Mexico, general funds from Bernalillo County and general obligation bonds.

“This is the direct result of the county asking South Valley residents what they would like to have and then making it happen.” says South Valley Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada. “The county is now building the largest splash pad in the state.”

The new aquatic play area will feature water slides, a bucket water drop, interactive sprays, and water cannons, among other items.

In addition, in the county’s effort to be more environmentally conscious, the pad will also utilize a recycling system that will collect, clean, and filter the water before returning it to the surface.

ESA Construction will begin work in the coming weeks on the new splash pad and improvements to the pool to include new decking, more cabanas, additional picnic areas, and landscaping

The new pad and pool improvements are to be complete for a Memorial Day weekend opening.
